The awards, hosted this year by Mazz Murray and Gina Murray at the London Palladium, are the only major theatre awards nominated and voted for by the public \u2013 giving us keen theatre-goers a chance to celebrate our favourite shows of 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was full steam ahead for <i>Starlight Express<\/i> with seven wins, including Best Musical Revival, Best Professional Debut Performance for Spotlight member Jeevan Braich (who played lead \u2018Rusty\u2019), Best Costume Design and Best Set Design. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hadestown <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also won multiple awards for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical for Spotlight member Melanie La Barrie (who played \u2018Hermes\u2019) and Best Musical Direction\/Supervision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the play categories, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Macbeth<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was the multi-award winner. Spotlight member David Tennant won Best Performer in a Play for his portrayal of \u2018Macbeth\u2019 \u2013 the actor\u2019s fifth WhatsOnStage Award win. The play also took home the awards for Best Play Revival and Best Sound Design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotlight are proud to see many of our other members also winning awards, including Imelda Staunton (Best Performer in a Musical for \u2018Dolly\u2019 in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hello, Dolly! <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 her third WhatsOnStage award!), Freema Agyeman (Best Supporting Performer in a Play for \u2018Nurse\u2019 in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Romeo &amp; Juliet<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Layton Williams (Best Takeover Performance for \u2018Emcee\u2019 in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cabaret<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and casting directors Harry Blumenau and Sarah-Jane Price (Best Casting Direction for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Am I So Single?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).
