{"id":6448,"date":"2024-08-12T15:38:42","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T15:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/?p=6448"},"modified":"2025-06-02T16:26:24","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T16:26:24","slug":"erin-doherty-the-crown-interview-cdg-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/the-industry\/erin-doherty-the-crown-interview-cdg-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Erin Doherty\u2019s Royal Role in \u2018The Crown\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018The Crown\u2019 actress Erin Doherty relives her audition for \u2018Princess Anne\u2019 and how she prepared for the callback.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From stage to screen, Erin Doherty has been a part of some truly exciting productions: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Crucible <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the National Theatre, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Les Miserables <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Call the Midwife <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the BBC, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Thousand Blows <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for Disney Plus, and many more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her crowning achievement has to be portraying young Princess Anne in seasons three and four of the hit, award-winning series <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Crown <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alongside co-stars Olivia Colman, Helena Bonham Carter, Charles Dance and Tobias Menzies<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The role earned her a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2020, and a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Critic\u2019s Pick Award from MyEntertainmentWorld in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/the-winners-of-the-cdg-awards-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CDG Awards 2024<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we had the chance to ask her how she realised her royal role. Can you tell us about the audition process?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Okay, so I got the call. I was doing a play at the time, and got the call from my agent, like, &#8220;They want to see you for this thing.&#8221; And I didn&#8217;t know who Princess Anne was, so I did my research. I went in for the first meeting. That would&#8217;ve been in January, and then I got called back again in April and had to wait.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it was a whole process of waiting and going away and doing your research, and just making sure you&#8217;re on your stuff enough that, if the phone did ring, you&#8217;re ready to go in there and smash it as much as you could.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So that was what it was. And, like I say, it was a lot of YouTube clips and walking around listening to her, because they have the most insane accent.
