{"id":6106,"date":"2024-07-18T10:09:56","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T10:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/?p=6106"},"modified":"2025-06-02T16:26:25","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T16:26:25","slug":"into-the-spotlight-young-performers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/spotlight\/into-the-spotlight-young-performers\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Into the Spotlight&#8217; Young Performers Competition 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s time once again to shine a spotlight on our younger members for the \u2018Into the Spotlight\u2019 Young Performers competition! <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have new themes, new judges, and exciting prizes to be won \u2013<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a year\u2019s Spotlight membership, \u00a3100 worth of camera equipment, a career advice session, a Spotlight goody bag and more!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All you need to do to win is enter a self-tape of a brilliant performance \u2013 whether it\u2019s your favourite poem, a monologue or duologue \u2013 that links to the theme of your age category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>What\u2019s the Theme?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All performances are open to interpretation and you\u2019re free to adapt to whatever suits you. They can be your favourite poem, a scene you\u2019ve been in, a film or television show, a monologue, a duologue or something you\u2019ve created yourself. The themes per age category are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>4-7<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Friendship &#8211; What makes a good friendship?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>8-12<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; School &#8211; If you could, what would you change about school?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>13-18<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; Inspiration &#8211; What inspires you for the future?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re not sure how to pick your performance piece, these are some suggestions to consider:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose a classic<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adapt a non-musical song<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choose your favourite poem and turn it into a monologue performance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perform a duologue with someone (the other person must remain off camera)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Create something completely new showing your interpretation of the theme<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><i>Please note:<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You must create your performance with the theme that is in line with your age category. If you select a different theme from another age category your entry won\u2019t be included.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Judges<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re delighted to announce not one, not two, but three amazing casting directors as our special guest judges for this competition, with one judge per age category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hannah Simons <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span>4-7 Age Category<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hannah specialises in casting commercials and music videos and has a rich history of working in film and television, beginning her career with films such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, The Boat That Rocked<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nanny McPhee. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then, Hannah has worked across a number of independent films, TV dramas and commercials, working with brands such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ITV, MTV<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulse<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Emma Sylvester <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span>8-12 Age Category<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emma began her casting career in 2016 and specialises in TV and children\u2019s casting. From 2017 to early 2024 Emma worked as part of the in-house casting department for the BBC as casting assistant and casting director across numerous shows, most notably <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holby City, Casualty, Doctors<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Father Brown<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Lauren Evans <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span>13-18 Age Category<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lauren has an extraordinary casting CV, working across a number of television shows and films, most notably <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Game of Thrones, The Theory of Everything<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Danish Girl<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gavin &amp; Stacey 2019 Christmas Special<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
