Aaron Taylor-Johnson<\/span> plays \u2018John Lennon\u2019 in this chronicle of his early years, during which he grows up in working class Liverpool, meets Paul McCartney and George Harrison, and develops a bond with them like no other. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nowhere Boy<\/span><\/i> makes a conscious effort to include the empowering female presences in Lennon\u2019s life as he grows from a boy to a man. His Aunt Mimi, played by Spotlight members<\/span> Dame Kristin Scott Thomas,<\/span> and his mother Julie, played by <\/span>Anne-Marie Duff,<\/span> feature heavily in this charming story of the birth of an icon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson will be stepping back into the world of musical biopics as she releases the highly anticipated Amy Winehouse biographical film <\/span>Back to Black<\/span><\/i> later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. \u2018Bend it Like Beckham\u2019 (2002)<\/h3>\n

Bend it Like Beckham<\/span><\/i> has recently become a feminist icon in its own right. Telling the empowering story of two young girls who dream of playing professional football, <\/span>Keira Knightley<\/span> and Spotlight member <\/span>Parminder Nagra<\/span> lead the cast as \u2018Jules\u2019 and \u2018Jess\u2019, and tackle the judgemental stereotypes of women in sport. <\/span><\/p>\n

After finding the diary of her mother \u2018Donna\u2019 (Meryl Streep), Sophie decides to invite all three of her potential fathers to the wedding. Much to Donna\u2019s horror, hilarious events unfold as the family find themselves with a tough decision to make.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BAFTA winner and Spotlight member Bukky Bakray leads the cast of <\/span>Rocks<\/span><\/i>, a homegrown drama about a young girl, \u2018Shola\u2019, and her kid brother who find themselves without parental care and are left with no choice but to live on the streets. As Shola tries to navigate a relatively normal life, between caring for her brother and holding onto her friends, she\u2019s forced to mature and act as both a teenage girl and a mother.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Gavron\u2019s direction leans into the hopelessness of the main characters \u2013 while highlighting the power of female friendships and recognising the struggles of British youth in today’s society. Gavron\u2019s other works include <\/span>Suffragette <\/span><\/i>(2015) and <\/span>Brick Lane <\/span><\/i>(2007).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Party<\/span><\/i> is a high-intensity comedy about a group of friends coming together to celebrate Spotlight member <\/span>Kristin Scott Thomas\u2019<\/span> \u2018Janet\u2019, as she finds out she has received a promotion at work. The unlikely collection of characters get together and before dinner is served the sophisticated ambience is soon shattered as opinions clash and secrets amongst the guests start to surface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This dark comedy is punchy, poetic and overflowing with masterful performances from Spotlight members <\/span>Cillian Murphy<\/span> and <\/span>Timothy Spall, <\/span>as well as <\/span>Emily Mortimer<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
