{"id":2383,"date":"2020-05-06T16:56:44","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T16:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/?p=2383"},"modified":"2026-03-05T10:05:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T10:05:39","slug":"the-spotlight-prize-2020-finalists-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/spotlight\/the-spotlight-prize-2020-finalists-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"The Spotlight Prize 2020 Finalists Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/spotlight-prize\/\">Spotlight Prize<\/a> is an annual event where graduate nominees have a chance for their performance to be showcased in front of industry professionals, with a \u00a32000 prize awarded to the overall winner.<\/p>\n<p>Over 70 drama schools and universities were invited to nominate a student from their graduating class to submit a self-tape audition for this year&#8217;s Spotlight Prize. The 20 finalists were selected by a panel of industry experts based on the quality of their audition.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Spotlight Prize will take on a slightly different format this year. We\u2019ll be awarding the prize for Best Screen Actor but due to ongoing social distancing measures, we&#8217;ve sadly had to cancel the Best Stage Actor prize.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re delighted that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0709661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paulette Randall MBE<\/a>\u00a0will be directing the\u00a0finalists as they film their monologues in September. The performances will be judged by an esteemed panel of casting directors with the winner announced on Friday 16 October and awarded their \u00a32000 prize.<\/p>\n<h3>The 2020 Spotlight Prize finalists are:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Yasmine Haller (LAMDA)<\/li>\n<li>Tomisin Ajani (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire)<\/li>\n<li>Talia Nyathi (Manchester Met University)<\/li>\n<li>Ryan Mal (Mountview)<\/li>\n<li>Rachel Barnwell (RADA)<\/li>\n<li>Michael Bunga (Arts ED)<\/li>\n<li>Mariana Nunes (GSA)<\/li>\n<li>Luke Polie (East 15)<\/li>\n<li>Luke Nunn (Royal Welsh College of Music &amp; Drama)<\/li>\n<li>Leah Balmforth (ALRA South)<\/li>\n<li>Lawrence Hodgson-Mullings (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland)<\/li>\n<li>Khadija Sallet (Royal Academy of Music)<\/li>\n<li>Kelsea Knox (Arden School of Theatre)<\/li>\n<li>Katie Okehurst (Drama Centre)<\/li>\n<li>Nimshi Kongolo (Bristol Old Vic)<\/li>\n<li>Amy Smurthwaite (Oxford School of Drama)<\/li>\n<li>Emile John (Rose Bruford)<\/li>\n<li>Emanuel Vuso (Guildhall School of Music and Drama)<\/li>\n<li>Bruce Allinson (Italia Conti Acting)<\/li>\n<li>Amy Hoole (Liverpool Theatre School)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good luck to you all!<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Best Screen Actor prize winner Lucy Reynolds from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama also won the\u00a0Carleton Hobbs Award\u00a0and received a five-month contract with the BBC Radio Drama Company.<\/p>\n<p>Rhiannon Clements from ALRA North, who won the Best Stage Actor prize in 2019\u00a0had been confirmed to play in The Glass Menagerie at the Manchester Royal Exchange.
