Plan as much as you can, as early as you can to take some of the pressure off.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make a list of goals you want to achieve.<\/strong>\u00a0This can help inform decisions\u00a0on how to market your show, what venue you choose, how long your show should\u00a0run for etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do your research.<\/strong>\u00a0Speak to other performers who have put on shows to get their advice, do some research on venues and\u00a0look at what insurance you may need.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Put together a budget.<\/strong>\u00a0There are lots of costs associated with putting on your show including registration fees, possible venue fees, accommodation and more. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society has lots of practical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfringe.com\/take-part\/putting-on-a-show\/budgeting-and-finance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advice about costs and expenses<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Decide on a venue.<\/strong>\u00a0Take a look at all\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfringe.com\/take-part\/putting-on-a-show\/finding-a-venue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the possible venues<\/a>\u00a0and make a shortlist. Check with the venue which dates and times are available and what facilities\u00a0are available in the space. Negotiate a time slot and arrange a signed contract.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Register your show.<\/strong>\u00a0Pick an image and write a description for your show&#8217;s listing then register via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfringe.com\/take-part\/putting-on-a-show\/registering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online registration system<\/a>. There&#8217;s an early-bird discount for those who sign up before 11 March.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Find somewhere to stay<\/strong>. Accommodation in Edinburgh in August can be expensive so start looking for somewhere to stay as soon as you can. Keep costs down by clubbing together with other performers to find a flatshare or if you&#8217;re lucky enough to know someone in the city then see if you can couch-surf.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Market your show<\/h3>\n<p>The Fringe is hugely competitive so it&#8217;s important that you put some thought into how you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/tips-and-advice\/a-journey-to-edinburgh-fringe-standing-out-from-the-crowd\/\">stand out from the crowd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Communication preparation.<\/strong>\u00a0Send emails to reviewers and industry people to let them know where and when they can see your show.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plan\u00a0your p<\/strong><strong>romotion materials.\u00a0<\/strong>Think about how you&#8217;re going to advertise your show. Make posters, press releases, promo videos, social media posts and flyers in advance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flyering.<\/strong>\u00a0There&#8217;s a great camaraderie between people flyering on the streets but there&#8217;s a lot of competition. Get the attention of passers-by with fun phrases, eye contact and by being energetic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Learn how to sell your show<\/strong>. Think of some snappy one-liners to draw people in.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be enthusiastic.<\/strong>\u00a0Even if it&#8217;s not going 100% to plan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Look after yourself<\/h3>\n<p>The Fringe is a fun and wonderful opportunity to connect with others in the arts industry as well as learning from other shows.
