She\u2019s seen countless auditions and knows precisely what to look for when casting her next role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We spoke to Amy about what she wants to see in the audition room, and what performers should do in the waiting room before an audition. Here\u2019s what she shared:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"responsiveEmbed\">\n<div class=\"embededYoutube\"><iframe id=\"723251425\" title=\"What the Casting Director of The Hobbit Wants to See in the Audition Room\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pnjMGYmHmYY?rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fspotlight.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-2257647_115=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-7=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-12=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-17=\"true\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be Confident in Auditions<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there\u2019s one piece of advice Amy would give to actors before an audition, it\u2019s that, \u201cConfidence is key.\u201d She emphasises, \u201cConfidence, for me, comes above talent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, when you enter the audition room, ensure you exude confidence by:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Dressing appropriately:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Wear comfortable clothing that won\u2019t distract you or the casting professionals during the audition.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Conveying good body language<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Make appropriate eye contact, stand tall with good posture, and avoid nervous fidgeting.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Being well-prepared<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> Arrive at the audition early \u2013 but not too early! \u2013 so that you have time to calm down from your travels before going into the audition room, make sure you know your lines and be committed to what you plan to do in the audition.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a look at our guide for more advice on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotlight.com\/news-and-advice\/the-essentials\/how-to-audition-with-confidence\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how to audition with confidence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make Bold Decisions<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During auditions, casting directors will hear the same lines delivered repeatedly, and many actors will likely deliver those lines in the same way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amy\u2019s next piece of advice is to, \u201cMake a bold decision about how you want to play it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t be afraid to be creative \u2013 and unique! You need to trust your instincts on how you interpret the character you\u2019re auditioning for and how the lines should be delivered, \u201cDon\u2019t be trying to predict, \u2018What does this person want?\u2019\u201d It may be that your fresh and different delivery makes the casting director view the character in a new light. At the very least, it will make you memorable to them \u2013 which is just as much a victory as getting the role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs you grow in confidence and as you train, as you get more experience, start to work out what would excite you if someone else was to play this part,\u201d Amy says. \u201cHow would you want to see them interpret it? Come in and do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What to Do While Waiting for an Audition<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to stay calm and focused while waiting to go into an audition \u2013 and respect of the other performers around you. Don\u2019t distract them; maintain your professionalism by, \u201cNot chattering too much,\u201d as Amy says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She stresses that it\u2019s, \u201cSo important to respect someone else&#8217;s process, especially if you&#8217;re going to audition in a different accent. Some people like to listen to that accent right up to the moment they go in the room and they have it on their headphones.
